Urban pedestrian mobility for mobile wireless network simulation

چکیده
In order to perform precise evaluation of MANET applications in the real world, realistic mobility models are needed in wireless network simulation. In this paper, we propose a new method to create urban pedestrian flows (UPF) mobility scenarios, which reproduce the walking behavior of pedestrians in urban areas. From given densities of pedestrians observed at several points, our method derives a UPF mobility scenario that reproduces the walking behavior of pedestrians consistent with the observed densities, using linear programming techniques. We have developed a network simulator MobiREAL to design and evaluate MANET protocols and applications with this realistic mobility model. MobiREAL provides various functions and tools including a mobility model to describe the behavior of individual nodes, a GUI to assist with automatic generation of UPF mobility scenarios and a visualization tool. We have conducted some experiments using the MobiREAL simulator. Through the experiments, we have investigated the influence of node mobility on the performance of MANET protocols and have shown the usefulness of our method and the MobiREAL simulator. 2008 Elsevier B.V. A realistic outdoor urban pedestrian mobility model
Existing generative mobility models, used to produce mobility data for simulated agents in, e.g., wireless network simulations, suffer from a number of limitations. Most significantly, existing models are not representative of actual human movement. We introduce a new mobility model based on state-of-the-art work in understanding pedestrian mobility patterns in urban areas, known as Space Synta...
متن کاملA Survey-Based Mobilty Model of People for Simulation of Urban Mesh Networks
In this paper a mobility model of people in urban areas for mobile wireless network simulation is presented. A 3-layer hierarchical approach is taken where the highest layer is an activity model that determines the high level activity that the node is performing (e.g., working). The second level is a task model that models the specific task within an activity (e.g., meeting with three people). ...

In this paper a mobility model of people in urban areas for mobile wireless network simulation is presented. Unlike most mobility models found in the literature, this model attempts to provide realistic mobility of people in an urban setting. To this end, the model is based on data collected through a number of surveys. The result is a 3-layer hierarchical model where the highest layer is an ac...
متن کاملOpportunistic Networking: Mobility Modeling and Content Distribution
We have witnessed two main trends in recent years that have shaped the current state of communication networks. First, the Internet was designed with the initial idea to provide remote access to resources in the network; today it is overwhelmingly being used for content distribution. In addition, the community of content creators has evolved from a small group of professionals into a global com...
متن کاملRepresenting a Model for Improving Connectivity and Power Dissipation in Wireless Networks Using Mobile Sensors
Wireless sensor networks are often located in areas where access to them is difficult or dangerous. Today, in wireless sensor networks, cluster-based routing protocols by dividing sensor nodes into distinct clusters and selecting local head-clusters to combine and send information of each cluster to the base station and balanced energy consumption by network nodes, get the best performance ...
